The Child Health Clinic™ @ Porur (formerly Porur Child Health Clinic) is a pediatric practice rooted in a tradition of compassionate rural medicine — from a small village clinic in the 1950s to a modern child health ecosystem.
In the early 1950s, Dr. J.R. Krishnamoorthy opened a small practice on Perumal Koil Street in Kunrathur — a village 30 kilometres from Chennai. At a time when qualified doctors rarely ventured beyond city limits, he chose to stay and serve the rural community, treating patients regardless of their ability to pay. For over five decades, his clinic was the only lifeline for families in the surrounding villages.
His dedication to rural healthcare and pioneering research in dermatology earned international recognition at the 7th World Dermatology Congress in Singapore. In 2010, the President of India honoured him with the Padma Shri — India's fourth highest civilian award — for his extraordinary contributions to medicine and community service.
Inspired by his grandfather's belief that healthcare should be accessible to all, Dr. Prashanth Sankar carries the family legacy forward — rebranding the practice as The Child Health Clinic™ @ Porur and building a modern, integrated child health ecosystem with consultations, vaccinations, pediatric dental care, and an on-site pharmacy.
